Leaching and surface runoff after fall application of fungicides on putting greens

چکیده

Many greenkeepers and authorities are concerned about the environmental risks resulting from pesticide use on golf courses. We studied leaching surface runoff of fungicides metabolites for two winter seasons after fall application boscalid, pyraclostrobin, prothioconazole, trifloxystrobin, fludioxonil in field lysimeters at NIBIO Landvik, Norway. The applications were made creeping bentgrass greens (5% slope) that had been established seed or sod (26-mm mat) USGA-specification. root zones amended with Sphagnum peat garden compost, both 0.3–0.4% organic carbon zone. proportions precipitation recovered as drainage water varied 3 91% 2016–2017 to 33 55% 2017–2018 due differences soil freezing, rainfall intensity, snow ice cover. Detections their mostly within risk limits (ERLs) aquatic organisms. In contrast, concentrations exceeded ERLs by up 1,000 times. Greens usually higher fungicide losses but lower than seed. Presumably because microbial activity a pH prothioconazole-desthio more polar, metabolite containing compost peat. Leaching occurred even frozen greens. results discussed practical context aiming reduced spraying against turfgrass diseases.

Nitrogen Uptake and Leaching on Greens

Superintendents know that management of putting greens is an art. Greens are often made of high-porosity sand that does not retain water or nutrients very effectively. Also, putting green grasses are cut extremely short, which does not allow a deep root system to develop and take up nutrients from deep in the soil profile. Therefore, putting greens require frequent irrigation and fertilizer app...

Influence of fungicides on the curative and preventive suppression of select diseases of golf course putting greens, 2009-2010

Golf course putting greens may be affected by various turfgrass pests. Fungicide applications are often necessary on either a preventive or curative basis and may target more than one disease. The initial objective of this trial was to assess the ability of various fungicides to provide curative suppression of Type II fairy ring symptoms on a creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) putting gr...

Establishing and Trafficking New Bentgrass Putting Greens

Establishing and Trafficking New Bentgrass Putting Greens Golf turf managers are pressured from the golfing community to reduce the establishment time of playing surfaces. To this end, accelerated grow-in procedures are implemented that eventually permit play on surfaces that are less than prepared to receive traffic. Research hassuggested that accelerated grow-in procedures and premature traff...
